I was lucky enough to be a part of a Twisted Wonderland x Sanrio Collab over on Twitter, and this was my part of it. I was given the character of Lilia Vanrouge from Disney's Twisted Wonderland and Dark Grape Man from Sanrio. Some of the rules for the collab was that I could only draw the characters assigned to me, it must be a fullbody or halfbody (no icon bust), and no NSFW or gore-ish themes. I had a difficult time figuring out what exactly I wanted to do for the collab. I went through many pages of thumbnails, and even tried to develop a more cartoon-y art style to fit the Sanrio character more, but it didn't turn out. I was also on a deadline, so I didn't have the time to try and develop a new art style. I also struggled with the color palette because the character Dark Grape Man is black with a white lineart/outline, so I had to try and work around that trait. I decided at some point that I wanted to try and do a little graphic design by attempting to utilize some typography within the work, and compose it as if it were a sticker design. Typography is something that I struggle with, but I always love the look of it in illustrations, so I decided that I wanted to tackle the challenge, even if the result was less than perfect. The final piece is what you see here. I tried to use the typography to frame the piece a bit, and tried to use some sparkle effects to balance the piece. For anyone wondering, the word "groovy" is spelled wrong on purpose. It's something that is utilized within the Twisted Wonderland game whenever you level up a character.
Overall, it was a fun project to be a part of, and I'm proud of how it turned out.
